Mersa Media Institute (MMI) is a non-profit media policy think tank dedicated to fostering a vibrant, responsible, and independent media landscape in Africa, with a particular emphasis on Ethiopia. Founded by Henok Semaegzer Fente, an Ethiopian-American journalist and media educator with over 15 years of experience in international reporting, media development, and creating and managing youth broadcasts, MMI was established with a vision to cultivate vibrant, responsible, and independent media, professional unions, and education centers across Africa.
We work through research, training, and institutional support to create a vibrant media ecosystem that serves democracy and development. Our approach combines cutting-edge research with practical capacity building and policy advocacy.
Today, we have grown to become a leading voice in media development, partnering with local and international organizations to advance media freedom, professionalism, and sustainability across Ethiopia.
