Pastoralist In Action Development Organization (PIADO)

Pastoralist In Action Development (PIADO) is a non-profit national Civil Society Organization (CSO) established in July 2019 under Ethiopian Federal Proclamation No. 1113/2019 (Registration No. 4264). Operating across the Somali and Oromia regional states, PIADO provides integrated humanitarian relief, recovery, and long-term resilience programming for drought- and conflict-affected pastoralist, agro-pastoralist, and internally displaced communities.

• Origin: Emerged from community-led responses to the severe 2016 drought and conflict in the Somali region and Moyale, which caused widespread displacement, livestock loss, and school closures.
• Evolution: Founded by displaced local leaders who initially organized reconstruction and back-to-school campaigns, transitioning from emergency relief to a comprehensive humanitarian and development actor.
• Operating Capacity: Supported by a dedicated team of approximately 20 personnel with an average annual budget ranging between USD 400,000 and USD 700,000.
