About Common Vision for Development Association (CVDA)

Common Vision for Development Association (CVDA) is an indigenous, non-governmental, non-profit humanitarian aid and development association in Ethiopia. Established on October 28, 2005, by dedicated professionals from diverse backgrounds, the organization delivers integrated, community-based development programs focused on sustainable poverty alleviation, child welfare, women’s empowerment, public health, and environmental conservation across marginalized rural and urban communities.


Legal Status & Institutional Background

  • Establishment: Founded on October 28, 2005.

  • Legal Registration & Licensing:

  • Re-registered and licensed on November 30, 2009, by the Ethiopian Charities and Societies Agency as an Ethiopian Residents Charity under Proclamation No. 621/2009 (Registration No. 0588).

  • Re-registered on July 30, 2019, under the Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No. 1113/2019.

  • National Mandate: Legally authorized to operate nationwide, focusing operational resources primarily on underserved and marginalized communities.


Vision, Mission & Strategic Goal

  • Vision: To see where poverty is alleviated sustainably with a favorable living environment in Ethiopia.
  • Mission: To work with and for poor communities, prioritizing children and women, towards alleviating socio-economic problems and food insecurity, reducing unemployment, enhancing productivity, and promoting healthcare, quality education, environmental conservation, peace, and democracy building at various levels for sustainable development.
  • Goal: To contribute to national poverty alleviation endeavors through integrated community-based development programs.

Governance & Organizational Structure

  • Strategic Oversight: Board of Directors composed of experienced and qualified citizens of diverse professional disciplines.
  • Executive Management: Led by an Executive Director managing operational execution and programmatic implementation.
  • Human Resources: 75 permanent staff members supported by 1,776 community volunteers.

Operational Scope & Geographic Footprint

CVDA operates integrated multi-sector programs across multiple regional administrations and municipal zones:

  • Benshangul-Gumuz Region: Marginal and underserved target localities.

  • Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR): 13 woredas across Wolayta, South Omo, Dawro, Kaffa, Gedeo, Gurage, and Silte zones.

  • Sidama Region: Operational coverage spanning 17 woredas.

  • Oromia Region: 16 woredas located across West Shewa, Borana, Guji, West Guji, and West Arsi zones.

  • Afar Region:

  • Zone 5: Dalifage, Dewe, Telalek, Hadele Ele, and Sumu Robi woredas.

  • Zone 3: Gewane and Gelalo woredas.

  • Addis Ababa: Targeted urban interventions across the city administration.

  • Experience: Over 16 years of continuous community-based development execution.
  • Beneficiary Reach: Addressed over 650,000 target individuals.
  • Project Delivery: Completed 62 development and humanitarian projects, with 4 active ongoing interventions.
