Ipas Ethiopia

Following the liberalization of Ethiopia’s abortion law in 2005, Ipas Ethiopia has worked in close partnership with the Ministry of Health and local stakeholders to establish safe abortion care and build comprehensive reproductive health networks across the country. Operating from Addis Ababa, the organization focuses on expanding access to safe healthcare services, equipping clinics, training healthcare providers, and reducing maternal mortality associated with unsafe procedures.

Key Programmatic Interventions

• Clinical Training & Supply Support: Trains healthcare providers and equips health facilities to deliver safe abortion and comprehensive reproductive healthcare.
• Second-Trimester Care Expansion: Collaborated with the Ministry of Health since 2010 to introduce medical abortion services for women at or after 13 weeks of pregnancy across all major regions and states.
• Youth & Community Engagement: Supports university students as peer educators on sexual and reproductive health and conducts community outreach regarding access to contraception and safe care.
• Emergency & Conflict Response: Sustains reproductive health and contraceptive services in partnership with government and community groups during periods of conflict and health system disruption.
