Founded on November 13, 1981, by actor Karlheinz Böhm, the Menschen für Menschen Foundation is an international relief and development organization dedicated to sustainable, self-reliant rural development in Ethiopia. Initiated following a famous appeal on the German television show Wetten, dass...? in May 1981, the foundation operates on the guiding principle of "helping people help themselves," aiming to transition assisted communities toward total independence from external aid.

The foundation employs an Integrated Rural Development model that links five essential sectors:
