What You'll Do

RTI is seeking to build a roster of experienced technical and management experts for an anticipated DOD-WRAIR disease surveillance and research opportunity in Africa. The potential scope includes scientific, technical, operational, and administrative support for WRAIR-Africa's infectious disease surveillance and research activities throughout the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR) to include Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Somalia, Uganda, and other countries of Force Health Protection (FHP) priority (e.g., Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)) to facilitate efficient and effective support across all sites while maintaining continuity of operations and aligning with WRAIR-Africa mission objectives. The primary location will be in Nairobi, Kenya with work occurring across other locations throughout the AFRICOM AOR.

We invite applications from candidates who bring skills and experience in the field of surveillance and research in emerging infectious disease across Antimicrobial Resistant Infections (AMRIs), Febrile and Vector-Borne Infections (FVBIs), Respiratory Infections (RIs), Wastewater-Based Bio-surveillance (WBB), and other emerging infections of military importance.

Potential key roles and thematic areas are included below. These opportunities are contingent upon receipt of donor funding.

  • Senior Program Manager: Infectious Disease Surveillance
  • Country Program Managers: Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Somalia, Uganda, Ethiopia, DRC
  • Infectious Disease Surveillance and Research Experts with experience in:
    • Antimicrobial Resistant Infections (AMRIs)
    • Febrile and Vector-Borne Infections (FVBIs)
    • Respiratory Infections (RIs)
    • Wastewater-Based Bio-surveillance (WBB)
  • Laboratory Management Specialists
  • Compliance and Regulatory Specialists: DoD, Army regulations; ISO standards, FDA and EPA; human subjects and animal care; good clinical practices
  • Logistics Specialists: procurement; inventory
  • Bioinformatics Specialists

What You'll Need

Minimum Requirements

  • Eight or more years of professional working experience
  • Expertise in one or more of the above technical, operations or management disciplines
  • Prior experience working on infectious disease surveillance projects funded by USG, highly desirable
  • Prior experience working on DoD funded projects, preferred
  • Professional experience working in Africa within the AFRICOM countries including: Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Somalia, Uganda, Ethiopia, DRC
  • Demonstrated experience working with relevant government, Ministries of Health, research entities, universities, and military stakeholders
