Reports to: College Counsellor
Primary Focus: Leading the university application process and managing careers support for students.
To assist the College Counsellor and act as an advocate for students in Year 12 and 13 with universities around the world. The successful candidate will have a clear understanding of global admissions processes, help secure university places, and assist in expanding the careers education program.
Key Responsibilities
Leading the University Application Process
- Support the American admissions process and maintain awareness of the Pan-European admissions systems (such as UCAS).
- Understand funding streams for Ethiopian and other international students to help them secure university places.
- Assist students in writing personal statements, crafting application essays, and completing and checking application forms.
- Assist in developing a planned program of careers and university guidance to be delivered discreetly or as part of PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic education).
- Help organize visiting speakers from universities and various professions.
- Develop and maintain a guidance library, ensuring it is stocked with the latest global opportunities.
- Liaise with the British Council and embassies to secure educational links that assist transition into higher education.
- Facilitate parent education on higher education through workshops and presentations.
- Work with individual families to offer bespoke guidance.
- Deliver training sessions to staff in areas such as personal statement and reference writing, supporting staff who find these areas challenging.
- Assist sixth-form students in preparation for highly competitive courses (e.g., medicine, law).
- Support Oxbridge or Ivy League admissions testing and provide practice interviews.
- Assist with the administration of PSAT, SAT, and GMAT exams.
- Support the Bridge-U platform.
- Support regular one-to-one guidance meetings with all Year 12 and 13 students regarding their university applications.
- Assist in booking careers interviews for all students in the Senior Phase using an online booking portal (e.g., Signup.com).
Managing Careers Support for Students
- Assist with the implementation and continuous expansion of the Careers Education Program for Years 9 to 11.
- Support the Key Stage 4 (KS4) and Key Stage 5 (KS5) Counsellor in the organization of careers fairs and other careers events.
About You
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counselling, or a related field.
- Experience dealing with external agencies (e.g., universities, colleges, and NGOs).
- Successful track record of working with a wide range of staff, students, and families.
