ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Investment Officer will be a trusted partner of Inkomoko Ethiopia clients with the responsibilities below:

DUE DILIGENCE AND INVESTMENT PREPARATION (60% time):

  • Respond to inquiries from prospective borrowers; support them to apply for our facility/investment products.
  • Introduce the investment products to entrepreneurs, explaining the requirements for repayment and the seriousness of debt financing.
  • Conduct investment appraisal, collect detailed information (personal, business, and guaranties), and arrange to open new investment accounts.
  • Prepare and execute investment contracts and arrange for disbursement of investment in kind.
  • Conduct due diligence on prospective borrowers, including site visits, document preparation, and coordination with Business Development Advisors and Associates.
  • Communicate all materials to the Investment Manager and assist in preparing credit reports for Investment Committee meetings.
  • Facilitate entrepreneur stories and photos for the Kiva platform for fundraising.

PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT (20% time):

  • Offer excellent customer service through daily conversations and site visits to maintain strong positive relationships with borrowers.
  • Work with the Business Development Services team to ensure borrower success and visit clients for monitoring.
  • Maintain delinquency and default rates below set targets.
  • Track borrower information and communicate effectively with key stakeholders about client status.
  • Actively participate in the weekly Investment Review Meeting and maintain a tracking system for payments.
  • Coordinate with Finance & Admin for invoicing and monthly reconciliation of transactions.
  • Interact with government leaders and court systems for follow-up on lack of payments.
  • Ensure adherence to Kiva partnership requirements, including reporting and journaling.

INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (20% time):

  • Update disbursements and investment repayments in the Investment Management System (LMS-powered by Odoo).
  • Maintain proficiency with investment software applications and work with providers to streamline processes.
  • Manage user security access and ensure proper segregation of duties across all stages of investment.
  • Advise the Management team on automating key lending processes.
  • Supervise investment operations, including posting of payments, payoffs, balancing, and fund disbursement.
  • Participate in the review of operational systems and procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • University degree in Finance or other related field.
  • Must be fluent in English, Amharic, and local languages spoken in the Gambella region.
  • Experience in group savings and group lending investments is preferred.
  • Strong financial and accounting skills; familiarity with business financial policies in Ethiopia.
  • Experience in investment management, microfinance, capital leases, and access to finance for MSMEs is STRONGLY preferred.
  • Prior experience in a lending environment, dealing with customers/debt, and litigation/court systems.
  • 3+ years of direct work experience in a relevant or applicable field.
  • Must be able to legally work in Ethiopia.
