SOS Children's Villages Ethiopia is an international non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children's Villages International Federation. The organization began its humanitarian work in Ethiopia in 1974 with the opening of its first village in Mekelle.
Since then, SOS has expanded its programs across several regions of Ethiopia, working with international donors, local governments, and community organizations to support children who have lost parental care or are at risk of losing it.
The organization operates across eight program locations with the mission that every child grows up with love, respect, and security.

Position Summary
The Project Cashier is responsible for managing project-related financial transactions. This includes receiving payments, depositing funds, processing payments, maintaining financial records, and ensuring accurate documentation and reporting of all financial activities.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Transactions
- Receive payments and deposit cash and cheques into the bank account.
- Process cash and cheque payments according to approved directives.
- Review payment requests for accuracy, completeness, authorization, and compliance.
- Verify disbursement requests and ensure payments are made to the correct vendors and projects.
Accounting and Record Keeping
- Record all financial transactions in the SOS financial recording system.
- Journalize and post income and expenditure entries accurately.
- Review accounts regularly to ensure balances are accurate.
- Maintain accurate and organized accounting filing systems.
- Ensure all supporting documentation for accounting records is complete.
Payroll and Compliance
- Prepare payroll and arrange timely salary payments.
- Follow up with Social Security (Pension) and Tax Departments.
- Register new employees with Social Security and tax authorities.
- Deposit tax and pension payments and follow up regularly.
Financial Monitoring
- Monitor and control payable and receivable accounts.
- Receive and verify original financial documents before submitting them to the supervisor.
- Participate in inventory and asset control activities.
Administrative and Technical Support
- Assist the Location Finance Manager/Project Finance and Admin Officer in implementing internal control systems and financial procedures.
- Provide financial management support to project teams and program location units.
Child Safeguarding Responsibilities
- Participate in safeguarding awareness and capacity-building trainings.
- Support children and young people to understand safeguarding risks and protection mechanisms.
- Immediately report any safeguarding concerns, suspicions, or incidents according to established procedures.
Required Qualifications
Education
- BA degree in Accounting and Finance from a recognized university or college.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.

- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to maintain accurate financial records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in English language.
