
The Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI), formerly known as the Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA), is a strategy and delivery-oriented government institute created to help accelerate the growth and transformation of Ethiopia's agriculture sector, which is a key contributor to the country's GDP, exports, systems and capacities of the workforces. The ATI focuses on improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, pastoralists, internally displaced people (IDPs), recovering people affected by conflict and others across the country for improved income, inclusiveness, resilience, and sustainability.
The ATI works to transform agriculture and rural development in Ethiopia by conducting analytical studies in policy and programmatic areas, piloting innovative agricultural technologies and systems, creating jobs for youth and women along the value chain, providing technical implementation support, linking actors along the value chains, attracting foreign direct investment who can work with cluster farmers, implementing problem-based, inclusive and sustainable innovative projects and programs, and building capacities of diverse players along the transformation continuum.
The Institute joins forces with various stakeholders, like MoA and other affiliate Institutions of the Ministry, policymakers, researchers, farmers, and development partners, to support the implementation of agricultural development programs and initiatives. In addition, the ATI collaborates with national and international partners to facilitate knowledge exchange, learning opportunities and resources mobilization. The Institute plays a crucial role primarily in supporting agricultural policy and strategies development to drive transformation of agriculture and rural development; facilitate knowledge exchange, generating and disseminating information to support evidence-based policy formulation and decision-making and pilot innovative projects to be scaled nationwide.

The Ethiopian Digital Agriculture Extension and Advisory Services (DAEAS) 2030 Roadmap envisions a productive, inclusive, and sustainable agri-food system in Ethiopia through the collaborative delivery of customized digital services to all farmers. As part of this roadmap, the Farmer Profiling Project aims to address major challenges in farmer data, including limitations with reusable datasets, poor data quality, gaps in data sharing, and limited options for integrated data access points. The priority of the initiative involves creating a comprehensive database of 1 million farmer profiles over three years. The success of this initiative is crucial for delivering quality farmer-facing digital services including digital extension and advisory services, facilitating a more efficient and effective agri-food system in Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI) is seeking to hire a Senior Project Officer for its Farmer Profiling Project. The Project Officer will be part of a team responsible for the creation and management of a comprehensive farmer profile database. This includes data cleaning by leveraging existing databases and conducting a new farmer registry. The Senior Project Officer supports the Farmer Profile Team Lead, contributing to both managerial and technical aspects, including planning, implementing, and reporting processes, managing stakeholders, participating in system design and development, and overseeing the overall project management. This role demands an individual with experience in leadership and project delivery, demonstrating a strong focus on urgency and ownership in their work.
The Project Officer will be expected to coordinate and support in the implementation of the farmer profile pilot and unique ID initiatives through effective data collection, analysis, problem-solving, document preparation, reporting, stakeholder management, and delivering regular support to data collectors and digital agriculture team. He/she will also oversee the introduction of various tools that might be utilized for upskilling and supporting smallholder farmers (SHFs) and development agents (DAs) in his/her respective region.

The Institute plays a crucial role in generating and disseminating information to support evidence-based decision-making in Ethiopia's agricultural sector. The ATI has Regional Transformation Centers across Amhara, Oromia, former SNNP and Tigray regions, which act as the implementation arm of the Institute, representing the organization in each region as well as coordinating all of the ATI’s implementation activities and ensuring these are closely aligned and integrated with the activities of regional partners. This model ensures the Institute’s work is well-grounded based on the realities of day-to-day implementation with smallholder farmers and other local actors and allows the ATI to ensure innovations can be effectively scaled and change can be sustained towards transformation.
