Job Summary

The Nurse is a qualified nursing professional responsible for providing comprehensive, safe, and patient-centered outpatient nursing care at the Tihut Medium Clinic. The nurse supports physicians in clinical service delivery, ensures proper implementation of nursing processes, infection prevention, documentation, and contributes to emergency response, HIV services integration, quality improvement, and community-oriented care in accordance with national guidelines and clinic SOPs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive outpatient and emergency nursing care within the professional scope of practice.
• Perform rapid patient assessment, take and record vital signs, and prioritize care based on patient condition.
• Implement nursing care plans and carry out physicians’ orders accurately and timely.
• Assist physicians during consultations, examinations, procedures, and minor surgeries.
• Administer medications safely following the Ten Rights of Medication Administration.
• Perform approved nursing procedures including wound care, suturing assistance, NGT insertion, urinary catheterization, enema, gastric lavage, and IV therapy as per the protocol.
• Provide lifesaving and emergency care, stabilize patients, and support referrals when necessary.
• Rapidly assess and manage life-threatening conditions and escalate to the physician immediately.
• Ensure emergency room readiness, including availability and functionality of oxygen concentrator flowmeters, suction machine and emergency drugs.
• Apply infection prevention and control (IPC) standards consistently in all patient care areas.
• Clean, disinfect, and sterilize medical equipment according to clinic protocols.
• Offer and perform HIV testing services (HTS) for eligible clients and ensure appropriate linkage for positive individuals.
• Support integration of HIV, NCD, SRH, and other primary healthcare services at OPD level and at community level.
• Provide counseling and health education related to chronic disease management, adherence, and prevention.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely nursing documentation in patient charts, Comm care and EMR systems.
• Attach and complete all required formats in patient files according to Tihut Medium Clinic protocols.
• Ensure investigation results are collected, reviewed, and attached to patient records on time.
• Complete HMIS and other reporting formats accurately and submit to designated units as required.
• Obtain informed consent prior to procedures and maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Provide emotional support, counseling, and clear health information to patients and their families.
• Advocate for patients’ rights and safety in all care settings.
• Demonstrate professional conduct, punctuality, and respectful communication at all times.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, laboratory staff, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical case reviews, and performance review sessions.
• Contribute to clinic quality improvement (QI), audit, and quality assurance activities.
• Support implementation of SOPs, clinical standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Facilitate patient appointments, follow-ups, referrals, and feedback mechanisms.
• Support community health education, screening, and preventive care activities when assigned.
• Assist in discharge processes and ensure proper financial and clinical documentation as per clinic protocol.
• Participate in continuous professional development (CPD) activities.
• Serve on designated clinic committees as assigned and report to supervisors accordingly.
• Maintain proper uniform, identification badge, and professional appearance during duty hours.
• Ensure availability during assigned shifts and proper handover during transitions of care.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in Nursing from a recognized higher education institution.
• Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in OPD /emergency nursing services and minor surgery.
• Experience in public and private clinic settings is an added advantage.
• Demonstrated competency in patient assessment, vital signs monitoring, and implementation of nursing care plans.
• Experience working in NGO-supported health programs, particularly HIV programs.
• Experience working in private clinics or cost-share health facilities providing outpatient services.
• Experience in clinical data recording, reporting systems, and health information management.
• Valid and renewed professional nursing license from the relevant regulatory authority.

Required Skills and Competencies

• Strong patient assessment and triage skill in similar settings.
• Proven skills in emergency and lifesaving care, including stabilization of critically ill patients prior to referral.
• Experience in administering medications safely.
• Practical skills in nursing procedures such as wound care, catheterization, NGT insertion, IV therapy, long term family planning service and foreign body removal.
• Skilled in HIV Testing Services (HTS), infection prevention and control (IPC), patient counseling, STI management, medical emergency response, incident identification and reporting, consolidated HIV prevention, testing and treatment, and family planning services.
• Familiarity with management of common diseases at OPD level.
• Strong documentation skills, including accurate completion of patient charts, EMR, HMIS, and reporting formats.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-centered, respectful, and non-judgmental approach.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and under pressure.
• High level of professionalism, ethical conduct, punctuality, and respect for confidentiality.
• Willingness to participate in continuous professional development (CPD), quality improvement, and capacity-building activities.
• Ability to work effectively in busy clinical settings.
