Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. We started our humanitarian work in Ethiopia in 1974. Today, we work across eight program locations in close collaboration with international donors, local government, and community-based organizations to ensure every child grows up with love, respect, and security.

Join Our Mission:

We are looking for a Driver/Purchaser responsible for supporting project staff by providing safe transportation and efficient procurement support.

Key Responsibilities

Driving & Transport

  • Carry out driving requirements as directed by the Procurement and Logistics Officer.
  • Provide transport services to staff, visitors, and guests, specifically supporting Mobile Outreach activities.
  • Ensure strict adherence to the SOS CVE vehicle policy.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure proper handling at all times.

Maintenance

  • Implement daily, weekly, and monthly vehicle maintenance checks.
  • Follow up on repair work and general check-ups to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Ensure annual car inspections are completed before the Road Transport Authority’s deadline.
  • Monitor fuel consumption and ensure sufficient fuel for all trips.

Procurement & Purchase

  • Assist in the procurement of goods and services, including obtaining price quotations.
  • Conduct market research to identify reliable suppliers and competitive pricing.
  • Purchase office supplies and project materials as per approved budgets.
  • Ensure timely delivery and verify that items meet quality and quantity specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of all purchases, receipts, and inventories.

Documentation & Safety

  • Neatly record vehicle log sheets and submit them monthly for review.
  • Ensure vehicles are used only for authorized/intended purposes.
  • Adhere to all SOS CVE driving safety regulations and national traffic rules.
  • Ensure vehicles are equipped with functional safety belts and a First Aid kit.

Reporting

  • Report any car accidents immediately to the police and the Procurement and Logistics Officer.
  • Provide written reports on routine maintenance and service needs.

Our Ideal Candidate

Essential Requirements (Must-Have):

  • Education: Certificate of technical training or at least Grade 10 complete.
  • Experience: 4 years of experience in mechanics and driving, preferably with an NGO.
  • License: Valid Driving License (Grade 3-5).
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work extra hours, evenings, weekends, or holidays as required.

Desired Assets (Nice-to-Have):

  • Prior experience with international organizations.
  • Knowledge of logistics and minor vehicle repair.
  • English language proficiency.

Core Competencies:

  • Safety & Responsibility: Prioritize passenger safety and adhere to strict protocols.
  • Organization: Ability to handle multiple tasks (driving and purchasing) simultaneously.
  • Integrity: High level of transparency in handling procurement and recording logs.
